Sookie Stackhouse Series Review for book 1&2

I have been hearing about this series on my favorite message board for a long time now. These are the books that HBO’s series True Blood is based off of. So yes, it’s a vampire series (FYI~She started these books way before Twilight) set in Louisiana. There are nine books written so far.

I resisted starting these books for a long time. I wasn’t really willing to jump on the bandwagon because of the characters name. I didn’t think I could read a book about someone named Sookie. There I said it.

Finally desperation set in. I really needed some new books to read. I had Paul look for Dead Until Dark (the first book) while he was at the library. It was checked out. I was talking to a friend and her eyes lit up while she was talking about these books. She loved them. After our conversation I got pretty excited when I found out the book became available right before we left for South Dakota.

It took a while for me to get into the book but once I did I fell hard. I loved it. In some parts it got HOT & STEAMY! Paul would have loved the book too if we hadn’t been sharing a hotel room with the kids, if you catch my drift ;) I couldn’t put it down after a while. I really enjoyed the characters and the way they interacted. It ended and I was very eager to start book two.

Living Dead in Dallas is the second book. I am not done yet, but close. I have had it a week. Does that tell you something? No? Well if I like a book it is usually devoured in less than two days. There is nothing wrong with this book but it is not a love story like the last one. (Keep in mind, we are talking about vampires here. It’s not really a romantic kind of love story but book number one did give me those first kiss flutters. You know the ones that seem to get rarer and rarer with each year of marriage.) This story is about a problem that needs to be solved. (Perhaps it could be called a mystery? Nah. I wouldn’t really call it that.) Now there’s nothing wrong with that but I thought it would consist of more…sex. You know, like the first one. I wanted more of the flutters.

I will finish this book and I will continue to read the series until at least book four. I hear that one is really good. From what I gather, in book four she gets involved with someone else, but I don’t know that for sure so that’s all I am going to say about that.

So if you like vampires and smut you may like book one. If you like to read series and don’t mind some sex and some swear words then you should try these books. I will keep you posted on how I feel after I finish book two.

All right, I finished book two. It got a little smuttier. Now that I have a better feel for what these books are about I think I will enjoy them more. Lisa gave me the rest of the series so I am good to go. This is way more sci-fi that I have ever read before but I am dealing with it better than I thought I would. I will give these two books two thumbs up even though they are not my preferred genre and they are a little raunchier than what I normally read.

For Those Who Like to Read Fluff

and don't mind cursing and some talk of drinking and recreational drug use this was a fun series. The author's main character is witty, sarcastic and somewhat of a screw up. The writing style is different but after I warmed up to it I liked it. These books are about a family of private investigators and it is set in San Fransisco. I loved that because I could visualize so many of the locations she talked about. Anyway I am once again on the look out for another fluffy mystery series. Have any suggestions? Let me know if you do.

I Don’t Think Like a Sane Person

At the beginning of January 2008 I started reading the Janet Evanovich books staring Stephanie Plum as a bounty hunter. They should probably be rated R due to language, and I probably shouldn’t have read them for that reason, but my gosh, I fell in love.

Once I started I couldn’t get enough. I was able to get most through our library however I did find out that their copy of number five was missing. I almost had a convulsion. I quickly ordered it online and even with that delay I managed to read all 13 in just over a month. That is what happens in my world during the sucktastic month of January. I read or find things to entertain me while I feel like I am caught in a giant snow globe.

After I devoured all the books I felt a great sense of loss. I wanted those characters back in my life. I even read most of the between the numbers books out of desperation. Those are really lame-o. With a little research I found out that every June she releases a new book. I got giddy. I couldn’t wait.

June rolled around and I didn’t buy it. I considered it each time I was at Costco but never broke down. I think in my mind I couldn’t justify buying it since I didn’t own the others. I also hate to admit this but I think I wanted to avoid the let down I felt when I knew I was done and there wasn’t another book waiting. It would be like suffering that loss all over again. See I told you I’m nutters.

Around Christmas my mom asked if there was a book I would like. I told her Fearless Fourteen. Sure enough, I got it for Christmas. I have been reading two different series that I like to switch back and forth between. Because of that I hadn’t started my new book. Paul even asked what I was waiting for.

I got to a point where I needed a break in my one series and couldn’t get to the library to get the next book in the other series. I saw the glossy cover taunting me and I gave in. I started my relationship with Stephanie, Morelli and Ranger all over again. Pathetic. I know, I know!

It was great. I tried to savor it. I made it last almost five days LOL! Now I am missing my favorite characters again and counting down the days until June.

On my other blog I mentioned liking pink sunsets the best. We had one tonight and it was stunning. I almost missed it too. Thank goodness I got upstairs in time to see it.
